Sage was a friend, customer and vendor of mine. I spoke with him almost daily. My heart is broken. I can not believe he is gone,I just spoke with him yesterday. I don’t want to believe that I can not talk to him and laugh with him daily. It is such a sad day!
I will miss him! =(

Sage was a really nice guy, easy to mess with and joke around with.
Way to young to go.

This is a shocker I remember so much about running around with Sage and Greta when we were kids.. This so sad and he was so young too. My heart and prayers go out to Greta and his parents.

Sage was our neighbor on Ballard Branch Rd and we met him in his teens and saw him grow into a man. We reconnected with him to have shirts made and appreciated his talent, skill and sense of humor. This is so sad. Blessings on Sage and to the Millards and to all who loved him.

Remembering Sage as full of life, very intelligent, and fun loving. History Day comes to mind. Many wonderful science illustrations. Praying for strength for friends and family to cope with this heart wrenching loss.

I spent a lot of time when I was younger hanging out with Sage and considered him my best friend for quite a while. I remember lots of good times at Steve and Eliza’s place, as well as at our house in Weaverville. Sage was a kind, funny, and talented person and I will miss him a lot.
My thoughts go out to the family. Steve, Eliza, and Greta – I’m so sorry.

We just heard the news today of Sage passing away and it saddens us very much. John and I just saw him a few weeks ago while picking up the end of our Corvair T-shirts from a show we had just finished. Sage went for a ride with John in our Corvair and the exuberance that he showed will always be remembered. He was truly a unique person/friend that will be missed.
It will take time to grasp the thought of him being gone.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Sage was my best friend and brother. I feel blessed to have known and spent time with him. From our rooming together to playing soccer as kids. He will always been in my heart & thoughts for as long as I live. To the Millard family, always know that you will be loved and thought of. Thanks to all that shared here and at his memorial. As long as we keep him in our thoughts he is still with us. I LOVE YOU my brother.

It’s difficult to understand what meaning we’re supposed to derive from Sage’s abrupt departure from our lives… and it’s even harder to comprehend what we’re ever going to do without him.
He was my musical partner, my comedic foil, and for the past ten years he was one of my very closest friends. From all of the countless hours working at the shop, to the happy jam sessions here, there, and everywhere, I have so many memories full of unending laughter and steadfast loyalty (both of which were things Sage provided in abundance).
I am saddened beyond any words I can convey, and I’ll never forget the many, many experiences I was fortunate enough to share with Sage- he was one of a kind, and I loved him.
All things said, it helps to know that although our friend is gone, he certainly he won’t be forgotten.

That was an awesome memorial service on Sunday. It was heartening to see how many people were able to be there on such short notice. Sage truly will be missed.

I’m truly honored to have had a son who made so many friends.
We were very close… not the typical, distant ‘father/son’ relationship. I’d take him to lunch at least every other week to Tacoria Fast and talk movies, the lastest FPS, Photoshop techniques, how to deal with late paying clients, Pad Thai recipes. In a very real way, when we got together, we were the ‘same age’. And, he made me laugh, too… sometimes till my stomach hurt. I’ll miss him intensly. I have to stop now. My love to all his friends. -Steve

I’ve been trying to post something here for days, but I will never be able to express how much I love and miss Sage. So, I’ll just say thank you… Thank you to the Millard family, thank you Matt for introducing me to Sage, thank you Cliff, thank you Jeff and the gang at Luella’s for honoring and remembering Sage, thank you Bruce for capturing his spirit in three little words. Thank you to all his family and friends for sharing such an awesome guy with me. Most of all, thank you Sage…for making me laugh, for being there for me and for being my friend and brother. I love you. I miss you.
We have created a Facebook group to celebrate and remember Sage. All are welcome to be a part of it, because…”You’re doin’ it!”

Wow, not much I can say but you all knew him as well as I did. I’m thinking of this guy all the time now and I will miss him every day. Now there is no one to understand my twisted humor that only he and I knew was funny for some reason. I have an empty spot in my life that cannot be refilled because he was so unique and special to me. I will play many games of World at War Zombies in his honor. Thank you everyone that posted here and came to the service at Jubilee. Much love to Sage and family, I will never forget you guys!

I met about ten years ago; he was a genuinely kind guy; easygoing and humble, very talented in multiple arenas. He’s a fine specimen of a human being, from the beauty saloon to the train yard, and, despite the fact that our correspondence was rather brief and fragmented, It was of the highest caliber in quality and I will truly miss him.
\here’s a brief acrostic for SAGE
Sincerity
Amicability
Genuity
Excellence.

My life has been made so special by the deep and abiding friendship that I have had through the years with Sage, Greta, Eliza and Steve. I am simply heartbroken that we continue on without the warm, generous and jovial, Sage Millard, making us smile and cry tears from too much laughter. You will always be remembered with a smile, sweet Sage. Steve, Eliza and Greta, you remain constant in my heart and prayers with much love. Jerita

I clumsily stumbled onto news of Sage’s passing just today, and have spent the day thinking about him and what tremendous presence someone can have in others lives. Obviously, if I just heard about this tragedy today (5 months later), then it goes without saying that Sage and I had lost touch since I left 420 7 years ago, but that’s the power of a strong soul…I worked with him only a brief while, haven’t seen him in about 7 years, yet news of his loss has occupied my entire day. It can’t be said about everyone that they are both memorable and likeable at the same time, but this could be said of Sage. I see that I’m rambling at this point so I’ll simply tell Sage that he can pick the music from now on, and I’ll keep the complaining to a minimum.

For all who are interested there is a memorial tree at the North Carolina Arboretum for Sage. With contributions from friends and family we have purchased a Paperbark Maple tree. Anyone is welcome to visit the tree as it is a great representation of Sage’s personality. It is in the Canopy Garden area and is the furthest tree on the path. It looks towards the future of the garden for the Arboretum. Please take time to visit the tree and support the Arboretum as Sage enjoyed his time there…
